Layering Sounds – How it works:

layering sound example picture

The sounds included in the Civilisation Soundscapes 5.1 Library comprise many vast backgrounds in which isolated events (e.g. pedestrians, cars) occur coincidentally. Therefore these sounds are particularly suited for combination, resulting in many new possibilities. The layering of different levels of sound not only makes soundtracks more interesting, it also adds the necessary depth. The results are astoundin

Distinguish between foreground and background

The car in the example above drives through wind and rain on wet pavement. Create a background by layering several levels of expansive sound elements. For the foreground, use sounds that emphasize the nearness of the event, e.g. "rain pattering on the street". You need foreground elements that simulate nearness to create a feeling of depth and vastness in the background.
