Instructions for Playing Civilisation Soundscapes 5.1 Demo Files in a True Surround Sound Environment

For correct playback of the 5.1 Surround Sound Files you need a playback system with Surround Sound capability consisting of the following components (or ones that are similar in function):

- a multi-channel audio editing application, e.g. DigiDesign's Pro Tools
- an audio interface with 6 or more audio outputs
- a 5.1 channel surround sound speaker system.

Download the Files:

To download each of these files, right click on the named link and save each file to your computer desktop by using the "Save Link Target As" command.

Playing the Files:

-Import the six files into your editing software. Conversion into your native audio file format will most likely be necessary - for example, into WAV or AIFF. A simple way to convert mp3-files into another format, for example, is using Apple iTunes.

- create six individual Audiotracks and load each track into an Audiotrack.

Align each file so that it starts at exactly the same time - this should be done with sample accuracy.

-Route the outputs of each these tracks to one of the six individual outputs on your audio interface, one track for each output. It may be helpful to name each track after its associated speaker channel.

-Set the playback volume of each track to an identical level.

-Alternately, if your audio editing software supports surround sound tracks, you can simply create one of these tracks, route its output to your surround sound speakers, and load the audio files directly into this track.
